Company Sale to Stock Exchange Quoted Strategic Partner (2020)
Context and company:
Many people who have a relationship with the book medium may not be aware that the book and music industries face very similar challenges. When investing in authors and artists, both publishers and labels sometimes take considerable risks. While traditional distribution channels remain important in the book sector, in both cases a close relationship with the community is increasingly essential in order to remain credible – and to generate content and titles that resonate with the market. smarticular Verlag has been following this new path for the book industry for years. The Business Hub Berlin UG behind smarticular thus combines economic sustainability with sustainability as a theme of the publishing house and its own platforms
With its publications and a team of 10, smarticular supports social change away from mass consumption and a throwaway society and promotes the conscious use of resources as well as mindfulness towards the environment. The topics and content of the books are inspired by communication and discussion with the platforms’ organically grown community, thus ensuring a constant enrichment of the variety of topics. With this integrated model, “smarticular” reaches around 3 million people every month.
Partners and synergies:
The full acquisition of Business Hub Berlin UG, which was announced by the Cologne-based publishing house Bastei Lübbe AG (ISIN DE000A1X3YY0) – one of the leading German-language publishers on December 22, 2020 has now also been completed.
Both companies expect significant synergy effects from the joint expansion of the guidebook programs. Bastei Lübbe is also expanding its range and expertise in the field of sustainability with the takeover.
in rebus corporate finance GmbH advised smarticular on the entire transaction process.
